The Bling Ring

This is one of her more recent movies

Her dad and brother helped with it

Has sex and drug use

Amazing actors but crappy directing at some points. like the last couple mins in the tv interview

This is my second favorite movie that I have watched of her’s. It was a movie that I watched more than took notes on like the others.

Lost in Translation

Lost in translation- This is the movie that was her “break through” one, she won awards for it.

At the start of the movie you know he’s a famous business man, or he’s an actor.

He travels the world and seems to sleep with random women he meets

There’s this woman that’s also in Tokyo and she doesn’t seem happy in the beginning, she seems homesick

Is he watching his own movie/show when he’s in his hotel room alone at 16 mins in?

Again with a possible stripper/prostitute.

He seems to be lonely in the beginning and maybe he isn’t making much money so that’s why he sticks to doing this ad in Tokyo.

He struggles to understand everything, from what people are saying to even the gym equipment

You find out that she’s married and it seems like it’s one of those that they seem happy on the outside kind of but on the inside it’s horrible and lonely because her husband is all about work (married for 2 years)

You also find out that he has a wife and child, it seems happy but he misses his son’s birthday (married for 25 long ones)

I feel like her husband is having an affair with the actress/model…. And She’s having an affair with bob

Why are they getting shot at with bb guns ??

I feel like she could be his daughter

Sofia Coppola really seems to like nude women and explicit scenes

Every time he talks with his wife its about carpet, Is that like a metaphor for other things

Is she jealous that he has another girl in his room when she asks to go to get food with him

Woahhhh they kissed at 1:25 that being an hour and 25 min in

I’m still confused as to what is “lost in translation”

He is so love struck over her I don’t get it

They both cheat on their spouses many times. I don’t get this at all

I don’t understand this movie at all, honestly I don’t understand why this was her big hit movie. I personally enjoyed The virgin suicides much more and found that the plot was much more noticeable and made slight sense.

Somewhere

Unlike the other movies I really didn’t like this one, I found it hard and slightly annoying to watch. It didn’t catch my attention and I found that it was hard to even take notes on if you don’t really care about what is going on in the movie. I know I will have to go back and re watch the movie in order to do another blog post and to be able to write about it in my paper.

Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette

Mix of old and new, it is set in 1774 but filmed in 2006

They take her beloved “mops” (Pug) away when she arrives to meet her fiance because pugs aren’t a french dog she can’t keep him.

They also strip her of anything that “belonged to her foreign court”

When she comes out of the tent after being changed into new clothes and “a real french women” she looks years older and more like a women in the 1774.

Women seem to always carry around small dogs

When she first arrives all the women just stand there and judge her, no one wants to help. It’s almost like they are afraid of her or she’s an alien

Whats up with the little kids that follow her around when she is walking to her new room?

What did the large hips on the dresses signify?

When they first eat together it is the most awkward thing I have ever seen

When the king’s mistress burps at the table everyone is appalled, it cuts some of the awkwardness of the film.

Marie can’t seem to find anyone to talk to, when her own fiancee comes to bed he says he’s tired and that shuts down the conversation.

There are two ladies that are her friends to her face but talk the most crap and spread the most rumors about her every time they get the chance.

Marie breaks the rules by clapping in the middle of the performance, but soon after everyone else erupts in clapping too.

When others start to get pregnant and then give birth, the rumor mills start turning again about how unhappy her life is and that she can’t bear any children

They decide that they will sneak away the the ball, even though they didn’t receive invites

When the king falls ill with smallpox his mistress disappears. In the scene following that you find out that the king as died, and that now means louis and marie are king and queen

Did they do birthday cakes back in 1774??

Maire almost catches her hair on fire a couple times as it is so high and puffy

Marie finally gives birth to a child, its a girl

Marie is a non traditional queen, she doesn’t like all of the help, she’d rather do things herself.

She also has a mini village that she helps garden and plays with the animals, she makes a request for simple clothes to wear as she also isn’t a fan of the fancy large dresses

Did Marie just have an affair with a general??

Marie’s mother dies and the scene after she gives birth to a heir

This time when Marie claps at the opera no one else does, they all look at her with judgement, as many aren’t happy with the royal family

All of the blood royals start to flee out of France in order to protect them incase the king and queen are killed

The last thing you see before the movie ends is the bedroom damaged, presumably because the protesters had gone through the palace looking for anything that is worth volume

The Virgin Suicides

The Virgin Suicides- The movie is told from the point of view from the future and also from one of the five guys.

the youngest girl that is the first to try and commit suicide, when she goes into therapy they have her wearing white and that is the sign of purity. Even though she doesn’t have a innocent mind because she thinks about death. The girls are so sheltered in the start of the movie that when they have a boy over for dinner they are in love and doting over him. At the beginning of the party that they were able to threo it reminded me of a middle school dance party, very awkward and lame.

Cecilia- commits suicide by jumping off the roof or out the window and landing on a spike in the fence, this is right after she asks to leave the “party” that was being thrown for her thanks to her therapist.

They list cecilia’s death as an accident, probably because the family is so ashamed and suicide is looked down on so highly, now I can’t imagine what people thought of it back then.

The five guys that were at the party get ahold of her journal and they end up going through it.. It’s weird because they read so much into it they don’t see that nothing really means what they think.

People start to see cecilia, almost as a ghost but she quickly fades away once they realize that it’s her

The actress that plays mary, is in criminal minds

Trip wears a velvet suit to hoco where he takes lux, he’s only allowed to because he has three other guys to take the sisters and mr.lisbon will be at the school dance.

Again a lot of things in this movie are white, the flowers for hoco, the dresses the walls.

With 54:59 left, she drinks out of the bottle of liquor and when she drinks out of it, it looks half empty but when they hand it to the next couple it looks full and almost unopened.

Trip left lux alone on the field after not taking her home when he promised he would

After that happened trip never saw lux again, but since, lux missed the curfew all of the girls ended up being pulled out of school and the boys then struggled to see them.

The boys make plans to see the girls and lux tells them to wait, and then next thing you know all four girls commit suicide.

This is one of my favorite movies I have ever watched, but I can’t pin point why or what makes it so good.

Rififi Movie

When watching this movie I was sitting on the edge of my seat, especially during the last 10 minutes. Despite the movie being in french, and having a good 45 minutes being completely silent. I highly enjoyed watching Rififi, I would say that I could easily sit down and re-watch this movie again and again and pick up new meaning to certain parts and even maybe some of the foreshadowing that was going on.

The part that was the most interesting was either the actual heist, obviously, but I really found the last 2 minutes of the film to be the most edge gripping and how my heart started hammering and I was unable to sit still. All yo unwanted was for the child to get home to his mother, the money to get back safely. Only one of those happened.

Another part that got my heart hammering was when they were getting ready to break into the safe, but first they needed to silence the alarm system. This was nerve racking because of the fact that there are police that roam around out on the streets that could possibly put the whole heist on hold if they were to second question anything.

BFI film festival

When looking at movie festivals around the world, one that comes up over and over is the BFI London film festival. It takes place over 12 days, with 248 movies shown, in 15 different cinemas, from over 74 countries around the world. In 2015, they had over 175,000 people come to see movies.

Some things that I would like to take from the film festival and possibly think about using in our own is, they have a secret movie, they also have many locations and finally they have different ticket prices because of the panels and non panel movies.

I like the secret movie because it is unique and not something that everyone does, they buy the tickets in advance and when they show up they have a great movie to watch. This could be where we have a surprise panel, just something to make it really unique so in the next upcoming years if this idea was kept then you build the want and anticipation of wanting to get tickets to see the secret movie.

Having two locations would maximize the profit that we would make, if we used Green way Rise and possibly Randolph hall auditorium. then we could show two movies at once, one could be three short films during the duration of one long movie.

Also I found a cool trailer for the 60th BFI film festival that took place last week.

Singing in the rain

When watching Singing In The Rain, i found it interesting that they almost break the fourth wall. I feel like they do this when they have the movie playing, within the movie and you see the audience. When this happens it feels weird because you are the second audience in this scenario.

I enjoyed the musical over all, some of the songs you hear and you don’t really know where they are from so its funny that when you watch this movie you come to the realization that “oh this is where this song is from”.

Super 8 movie.

For this project I am paired with Luke. We have started to draw out and plan the shots, the overall idea of this movie/ short clip is to have the students take a test and all of them get F’s on it, so in retaliation they throw the teacher off the roof. We feel like this is going to be funny but also slightly challenging because we can’t actually throw a real person off of the roof, so the “edit” that we will have to do on the super 8 camera will be trying to get the real human and then the dummy to match up as close as possible. I feel like in a way it is good because since the camera quality and film quality on this shoot will be grainy that it can actually work in our favor rather than the digital film.
